Piano Music That Reaches Deep Down Into Your Emotional Being
This page, and subsequent pages as they are made available, will contain performances on a solo piano or piano with orchestra. They will vary from audio to video - but are there to just block out the sounds of your neighborhood or the stresses in your mind. They will be based on the 'emotional' background from the composer; the 'emotional' background of the performer; the workings of the melodies and harmonies of the music itself; or it will just be something that had an emotional effect in my own life.
For too many people, music has replaced the words of God in their lives when it comes to comfort, guidance, emotional balance, etc. However, music can also be an emotional journey that few can take properly - but they can not always be avoided. Take the journey - or just open your Bible and casually read & meditate with this music in the far background of your mind... and enjoy the rare moments of emotional peace that few people can experience these days.

Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 2. Adagio
Helene Brimaud
Grimaud chooses compositions that speak directly to memory, creating a programme of works which through their simplicity can bypass the barriers of rational thinking to unlock powerful moods, feelings and sensations.

Hélène Grimaud was born in Aix-en-Provence, France. Her father came from a background of Sephardic Jews in Africa, and her mother's ancestors were Jewish Berbers from Corsica.
She has stated that as a child, she was often "agitated". She discovered the piano at age nine. In 1982, she entered the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied with Jacques Rouvier. In 1985, she won 1st Prize at the Conservatory and the Grand Prix du Disque of the Académie Charles Cros for her recording of the Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No. 2.
She experiences synesthesia, where one physical sense adds to another, in her case seeing music as color, which helps her with memorizing music scores. Click here for two of the videos I used to try to explain synesthesia to my music students.

Wladyslaw Szpilman plays Chopin: Nocturne C sharp-minor.
Wladyslaw Szpilman played this music in the last live broadcast for the Polish Radio on 9/23/1939 . An hour later German bombs destroyed its power supply and the Warsaw Radio closed for long 6 years. During the German destruction of Warsaw and people, Mr. Szpilman went into hiding and was one of the few survivors. His 'true' story is portrayed in the movie "The Pianist."
Much of Chopin's piano music cuts to the heart - especially if one knows about the performer this well and sees their past in their eyes as they play the music. Many listeners may have some tough times in their past / present - and can identify with Chopin's music.
Fryderyk Chopin was a Polish composer of the Romantic Era in European classical music. Chopin wrote exclusively for the piano, and his music is considered virtuosic while simultaneously being deeply expressive and personal.
"Chopin was a genius of universal appeal. His music conquers the most diverse audiences. People are moved by his music. Hi music does not tell stories or paint pictures. It is expressive and personal, but still a pure art. His music is the universal language of human communication. When I play Chopin, I know I speak directly to the hearts of people!" - Artur Rubinstein
There is no other music that touches us as much as Chopin's.

Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No.2 Op.18
Anna Fedorova
Listeners can be overwhelmed by the vast, enveloping sound that Rachmaninoff's music generates
and performers are hesitant to supply the emotions his works demand.
